Welcome

to the

Elfpack Music
Hall!

The home for musicians and music lovers on Elfpack.

Whether you're a budding musician, a musical virtuoso, or even if you just like listening to music and prefer to leave the playing to those that get paid for it, this is the place for you! Here you can discuss anything from your favourite artists and musicians to tips on how to play and what instruments to buy. You can upload pictures of your instruments and even link to videos of you or your band playing :) This wiki is new and will be constantly under construction, so any tips or suggestions would be welcome- Just drop [phoenixborn] a message and he'll get right back to you :)

Okay, to business! Click on the links below to get to the area for your particular instrument- Add your name, upload pictures of your instruments, or the ones you want, link to songs and videos, and pretty much anything else you want to do! As long as it's relevant anyway, don't let your imagination run too wild :P

The main page of the Elfpack Music Hall (you're on it now fool :P) is where you can talk about music in general- Bands you like, bands you don't, how much you'd like to beat Lars Ulrich over the head with his own symbals, that kind of thing! If it's music, you can talk about it here :)

The titles of the instrument-specific pages are self explanatory I should think;

Drummers/ percussionists!

Guitarists/bassists!

Keyboard and Pianists!

Singers!

Songwriters!

There isn't really enough demand to warrant setting up a wiki for people who play the Ukulele or the Shakuhachi, so for all those of you who rock enough to buck the trend and play something unusual, and as hard to pronounce as it is to play, then you can go here :) -
Anything else!

Any questions or problems please send a message to [phoenixborn]. Other than that, keep rocking, and if anything on this wiki helps you become rich and famous, remember who you owe it to ~__^

2008-10-06 [Bookwyrm]: I'm not afraid. :P Admittedly, I'm more afraid of your cat than I am you, but I'm still unafraid. :P

Cellos are beautiful. I wish I could play a stringed instrument. :( -writes that on her massive to-do list-

2008-10-06 [д×ﻉ| PK]: i play trumpet wtf theres no place of me to go

2008-10-06 [Bookwyrm]: Think that's what Anything else! is for. ^_~

2008-10-07 [Andy8178]: No! Brass does NOT deserve to be in Anything else!. Brass players are quite prominent not just in classical music, but jazz, reggae, and ska, as well as Sublime *demands a brass page be made in my honor*

2008-10-07 [DeeJay™]: yeah, but you could argue a similar case for every instrument x]
and as the guy said, if enough people on EP play an instrument, it'll get it's own page ^^

2008-10-07 [phoenixborn]: See? DJ knows his stuff :P Same thing [Axel PK], if it's not there add your name to an ything else! for the time being. I shall set the number of members at which a class gets it's own wiki at 3 :)

2008-10-07 [James Von Fugger, King of the Zombies!]: how is sublime mentioned apart from ska.

2008-10-07 [Andy8178]: because they sound different than Less than Jake

2008-10-08 [James Von Fugger, King of the Zombies!]: Less Than Jake isnt the template for ska. Ska is what is generally known as a 'genre'. And within this 'genre' are 'sub genres'. Ska can be divided among 'reggae tone' and 'ska punk'. Sublime is reggae tone. Less Than Jake is ska punk.

You wouldnt say Pink Floyd isnt classic rock because it sounds different than Led Zeppelin.

You've been served by a frenchman.

2008-10-08 [shinobi14]: Ouch. And by a Frenchman, as well. ;)

2008-10-09 [Andy8178]: That all depends on how you define the genre. Classic rock isn't a genre. That's like saying classical music is the genre of music in which Western liturgical and secular music is used. That's not correct. "Classical" music actually has 4 genres wrapped into one because people are closed minded and just assume it's all the same. Classical actually is Baroque, romantic, classical, and progressive. Take note that classical is actually a genre defined within classical music. Same with Classic Rock, it doesn't exist, it's just another broad word to describe what music was made between two times to attract a crowd to listen to radio. Pink Floyd is properly defined as Progressive Rock and Led Zeppelin falls into many categories, such as rock, hard rock, metal, and folk.

2008-10-09 [James Von Fugger, King of the Zombies!]: Soo, why are we getting into a semantics debate concerning classic rock and classical? i thought we were talking about ska.

So, I guess we're shifting gears to defining classic rock now? and i'll be sure to type nice and clear for you. I'll try and make a pretty picture if it'll help you understand better.

Genre = Classic Rock
Sub Genre = Progressive
Sub Genre = Metal
Sub Genre = Folk

2008-10-09 [Bookwyrm]: What Andy is so correctly saying is that Classic Rock is not a genre. And it can't be a genre. What is "classic" today may not be commonly referred to as "classic" tomorrow, and it certainly wasn't "classic" then.

2008-10-09 [shinobi14]: On this subject, I'd like to chip in my two cents. ;)

I believe that today, there are too many genres. I mean, I say "System Of A Down is a metal band", and people say "No they're not, stupid! They're quite clearly a pre-hardcore grunge thrash". That was incorrect, but it was just an example. I just can't understand why we would need so many sub genres! >.<

2008-10-10 [Bookwyrm]: -giggles- I have to agree with Danny there. Hubby is always going on about how this band is ___, ___, ___. And I just...well my eyes glaze over and I nod a lot, but there we are. Though I suppose I'm not really interested in "genres." I just like what I like and don't really pick and choose by genre.

-cough- But I suppose I'm not a "serious musician" so my thoughts there don't run that deep. :P

2008-10-10 [Andy8178]: Traci, thanks for clarifying.

2008-10-10 [Bookwyrm]: ...Woah. Wait a tic. Are you actually thanking me, or was that sarcasm?

2008-10-11 [Andy8178]: No, it was genuine

2008-10-11 [Bookwyrm]: o.o...-pops open can of confetti-...-tosses it- Fwee...o.o

2008-10-11 [shinobi14]: I know. =D

2008-10-12 [phoenixborn]: ...He's planning something...
